Statement of Work:
With a Ph.D. in American history and twenty years of museum and public history experience, I can provide interpretive planning, research, and curatorial services and I have a wide range of writing expertise including exhibition text labels, magazine and journal articles, pamphlets, and interactive video scripts. I also have extensive experience conducting oral histories. Throughout my work, I strive to create exhibitions that draw visitors out of passive receptivity and move them beyond reading labels. Interactives should not be confined to special spaces for children; text itself is interactive when the words come alive and the ideas dance in viewers’ minds – exciting them, challenging them, engaging them in a story or a question. Label texts should not merely describe artifacts or give information, labels need to help visitors see the artifacts and ideas as if they were all fresh, enticing, new discoveries.
